Hoping to spark a little joy during a season marked by isolation during the holiday season of 2020, we placed a bucket of candy canes at the corner of our yard with a simple sign inviting passersby to take one. As Christmas Eve approached we decided to add one more gesture to bring the spirit of the season to our community. My husband, as Santa with his naturally white beard and I would hand out candy canes to friends and neighbors. For a few hours each evening during the week before Christmas, Santa and Mrs. Claus appeared outside our home sharing holiday cheer with anyone who stopped by. What started as a small act of service in our neighborhood quickly grew into a cherished tradition that has spread well beyond our own community. Now, during each Christmas season our Candy Corner becomes a Holiday haven where Santa and Mrs. Claus greet visitors from all over the region, sharing candy canes, fun, and photo opportunities. We are honored each year to be invited to visit Christmas parties, care facilities, and individuals in need. We cherish the opportunity to give and receive a bit of Merry Magic to the many wonderful people we meet each year.
